Tormentil is a native perennial plant of the UK, typically found growing in grassland, meadows and hedgerows, to a mature height of up to 30cm.

Tormentil takes its name from the Latin for 'minor pain', indicating the use of this plant to treat cuts, sore throats and stomach pain. It is a short, creeping plant.

Botanic classification and naming: Tormentil is a member of the Rose (Rosaceae) family. The genus name 'Potentilla' identifies the plant as a Cinquefoil and its species name 'erecta' means 'erect/ upright plant'.
