Wild Thyme is a
native
perennial plant of the UK, typically found growing in chalk grassland and well-drained ground, to a mature height of up to 5cm.
Wild Thyme is a different species to the one used in cooking (Thymus vulgaris) and the various species used in gardening.
Botanic classification and naming: Wild Thyme is a member of the Mint (Lamiaceae) family. The genus name
'Thymus' identifies the plant as a Thyme and its species name 'polytrichus' means 'many-haired plant'.
